Asus netbook has mastered
At a time when netbooks were thrown into the bus and replaced with nice, fancy tablets like the iPad and HP Slate, Asus shows that they have mastered the netbook releasing a refined version of the already stellar 1015 Series. This is my second netbook and I also have an iPad, Dell V13, Sony VAIO, and two Quad Core desktop (I do not keep them all in one place of course), I like my iPad for entertainment and be a consumer of the Internet, but really missed having a keyboard and mouse to “get stuff done” and Asus keyboard and mouse the highest quality of all the netbooks I tested.
I replaced the OS with Ubuntu 10.10 unit and it worked fine. The system comes with Windows 7 Starter that I used once and it seemed to master, but I do not really use Windows and so I can not really speak for him. He also had a second “Quick Start” OS appeared to be a lightweight version of Linux, but I’m guessing here. That does not help much for me. As for Ubuntu Unity it works pretty well, but still needs some work. I put it on just to mess with and it was good enough to keep for regular use.
The only things missing from this device are memory, it comes with one GB of RAM and I guess most people will want to go to two concerts. In addition, the graphics card is nothing to write home about, but Asus still has a version of the 1015 graphics card with a ion for those interested (I was personally very well with the graphics card in and had no use for the most expensive graphics card.) I was able to play flash no tear happened on my old netbook, then maybe the addition of the N550 atom is sufficient to operate the flash. I am not using the flash often well then maybe I got lucky.
overview
Processor: Atom N550 seems fast atom, but you can tell your using an Atom processor.
RAM: DDR3 is nice and fast 2 gig would have liked to default.
Display: Resolution looks pretty good. The matte finish is good for outdoor use.
Battery: Good, ‘said 13 hours, but I get 10 using Ubuntu Unity
Keyboard: A+, as chiclet keyboards!
mouse: good. Great for a netbook and has a rubber coating on it nice and silky.
Bluetooth: mine has been disabled by defualt. I guess to save battery power. I had to hit F2 at startup to enter BIOS and enable the bluetooth.
WiFi: Driver runs on Linux.
Camera: pretty good, but noting special. It has a very nice cover that slides over the lens and turns off the device to save power when not in use. Work in linux.
Charger: Nice and small.
